The Friends group is in the process of obtaining 125 year lease from the City and County of Swansea in conjunction with Clydach Community Council for elements of the park that they feel they can improve. This should be signed sealed and delivered by the end of July 2020. The lease was approved by Swansea Cabinet on 19 March 2020 and now needs to go through the legal process.

The first priority for the group is to refurbish the existing pavilion and provide public toilets , as currently there are none , open on a daily basis for public use with disabled and baby change facilities. This project will cost approximately £56,000 and a grant application has already been made to Mynydd Y Gwair (Windfarm) for £35,000 and we delighted to advise that this has been approved and works to the Pavilion are under way. The remaining funds will come from Tesco Bags of Help, Co-op Community fund and our own funds through donations. The pavilion has not had much maintenance over the past number of years as there is no money in the Local Authority pot and the showers don’t work properly , the toilets are blocked and the whole place needs a face lift as it is not fit for purpose.

Our second priority is to construct a new Community Club House on the main road side of the bowling green. This would contain two small dry changing areas for bowlers, tennis players and others together with two toilets, a store , small kitchen and a 70sm Community Room for use by all. It is envisaged that the Community Club House will serve as toilets for the Heritage Centre and Canal Society and be used for meetings, exhibitions, presentation evenings, birthday parties, quiz nights, bingo, coaching and training sessions and so forth and users will only be asked for a contribution for utility services. The estimated cost is £165,000 and a grant application has already been made to the Garfield Weston Foundation for £15,000 and one is currently being made to the Community Lottery Fund for £100,000 with other smaller grants and our own funds making up the difference.

In the future the group will be looking at improved parking, disabled parking as there is currently none, CCTV cameras, better lighting, landscaping and planting schemes, improvements to the childrens play areas and in particular rubber surfaces.

The group has already had donations totaling over £15,000 from the clubs, individuals, local businesses and other groups and would welcome further donations from others in the community. We plan to put green collection boxes in various locations in the village so please feel free to donate as much as you can or alternatively donate via our Donate Page on this website.

Thank you.
